Abstract

Analyzing the economic system in force, some authors have argued that, currently, we live in the new culture of capitalism, characterized by a flexible economic structure, which demands from workers something far beyond their own limits, capabilities and moral conceptions. It is an organization without a long-term vision, fixing employees in the dilemmas of the present and in a work activity with innocuous and uncritical tasks. It seems that this social model has also influenced academic work, leading to unbridled productivism and making scientific content uncritical and static. Based on these analyzes of the 3 contemporary context, this research aimed to investigate the experience of graduate students. For that, an exploratory empirical research was carried out, in which six students from one of the best evaluated graduate programs at the State University of Maringá (UEM) were interviewed. The results show that students experience practices that are quite consistent with the new culture of capitalism. This scenario creates future challenges for thinking about a new form of academic production, guided by scientific knowledge that is not only coherent, but also decent.
