The Northeast Fortress Through The Infant-Juvenile Look At Cancer

Abstract

Exploratory research with a qualitative approach in order to understand the perception of pediatric cancer patients undergoing treatment about their own experience, with an emphasis on the pain that cancer involves and its multidimensionality, as well as to relate this perception with the clinical picture and the family context. Six pediatric oncology patients assisted by the Mossoroense League of Studies and Combating Cancer (LMECC), and their respective companions participated. Data were collected using projective techniques using Human Figure Drawing (DFH) and possible interventions. An association was found between the female sex and older age as predominant characteristics for a successful resilience to the experience of cancer. Imagination, love from family members, friends, family and health support, and hope were important tools for coping with cancer.
