The pandemic and the need to talk about death with children

Keywords: Pandemic, Death, Child

Abstract

In contemporary times, especially in Western culture, death is still considered taboo, as it awakens fear and suffering. Talking about death is not easy. However, it is necessary since finitude is one of the few certainties in life. When it comes to children, it becomes even more complex as they also experience the grieving process. However, young people have a different understanding of the concept of death than adults. In times of pandemic due to the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), death is more evident in view of the high spread and lethality of the virus. In this sense, we propose, through this work, the discussion of strategies for approaches to death with children since, with the increase in deaths caused by COVID-19, the demands on the guidelines on how to approach this issue with children have increased.
