Psychoanalysis case studies in online literature

A narrative review

Abstract

This article aimed to carry out a narrative review of the case studies and the reports of clinical experiences based on psychoanalysis, disseminated over the last 5 years through scientific articles published in the online version. The descriptors employed were "experience report" and "psychoanalysis" or "psychoanalytic psychotherapy" and "case study" and "psychoanalysis" or "psychoanalytic psychotherapy", including articles made available in full between 2013 and 2018. We selected and analyzed 28 articles, considering the authors' own description of the methodology used in each study. The methodologies found were: clinical case study, narrative with an analysis of the transferential relation, a clinical method with the psychoanalytic framework, case report without specification of the method used, and narrative methodology. It is concluded that publications in psychoanalysis, directly related to clinical writing, do not present a standardization of methods
