Heterosexism and lesbian (non)-existence:

oppression and confrontation in "Love by right"

Keywords: heterosexism, sexism, lesbian, violence

Abstract

In contemporary society, the supposed masculine and heterosexual supremacy are perpetuated through sexism and heterosexism, delegitimizing the lesbian existence. The objective of this essay is to reflect on discourses of oppression and the lesbian confrontation of them through the dialogue with the movie "Freeheld". The analysis shows how the oppression suffered by lesbian women is closely linked with the symbolic violence that makes them invisible. The impasses present in the movie invite us to think about how the struggle cannot be the responsibility of only oppressed women, nor be restricted to the search for rights in justice. It is required that society deconstructs discourses that perpetuate heterosexism and sexism as social orders of domination
